Dr Maya Melati Attended The “2025 Sichuan-Nanchong (Xichong) Organic Innovation Conference”

Background of the Conference:
Based on the long-term cooperation contract,Xichong County and IFOAM-Organics Asia has successfully conducted Xichong AsianOrganic Innovation Conferences in 2019, 2021 and 2023, in Xichong County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province.Xichong County continue to host the Conference in 2025, and it is renamed as the “2025 Sichuan-Nanchong (Xichong) Organic Innovation Conference”. The conference was held at the Jinling Lotus Hotel, Xichong County.

This year’s Summit is organized in cooperation with the International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR) and focuses on “Low-Carbon and Climate Change in Organic Agriculture” and “Innovations of Organic Agriculture from Farm to Fork”. About 300 participants, including 20 international guests and speakers, attended the event.

The events:
Day one (26 June 2025):

Speeches were delivered, among others, by the President of IFOAM-Organics Asia, Local VIPs, the academicians. It was also presented the launch ceremony of live broadcast of organic agricultural products and the agreement of Xichong County People’s Government with Hema Fresh on organic agricultural product sales.

Afternoon event:
Parallel sessions on “Low-Carbon and Climate Change in Organic Agriculture”. The presenters are from University of Bonn, Germany; University of Bakrie, Indonesia; Indian Veterinary Research Institute, India; and Center for Estate Crops Engineering and Modernization of Agriculture (BRMP), Indonesia.

The participants were invited to visit the organic exhibition and fair near the conference venue. The stalls show off the organic products (fresh and processed food). There was also an entertainment with a traditional music concert.

Day 2 (27 June 2025):
Field trip to (1) Organic village – organic vegetable comprehensive production technology; (2) Organic agricultural products processing industrial park, and (3) modern technology seedling center. The farmers in the village are required to cultivate organically, otherwise their land will be used by the local government.

Afternoon event:
Parallel sessions on “Innovations in Organic Agriculture”. The presenters are from Setsunan University, Japan; PDS Organic Spices, India; Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh; Dr Maya Melati (ISOFAR member) – (Staff of Crop Ecophysiology Division) IPB University, Indonesia; and Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Vietnam.

Dr Maya Melati presented “Gradual organic fertilization for plants with non-simultaneous harvests”

Summary of the presentation:
There are types of plants that do not flower and form fruits simultaneously. Examples of plants with non-simultaneous harvests that are commonly cultivated in Indonesia are okra (Abelmoschus esculentus Moench), bitter melon (Momordica charantia), and winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus). Findings from the studies conducted: repeated application of organic fertilizer can be recommended for non-simultaneous harvest crops.

This conference has an impact on involvement in the organic farming scientific community, sharing technology that has been achieved, and increasing the collaboration with foreign partners.
