Prof. Sudarsono dan Dr. Dewi Sukma, staf dosen Divisi Bioteknologi Tanaman, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura (AGH), Fakultas Pertanian, IPB, menginfokan bahwa abstrak publikasi ilmiah tentang patogen penyebab penyakit busuk lunak (Erwinia chrysantemii telah terbit online di jurnal Plant Protection Science (PPS). Publikasi tersebut ditulis bersama oleh Prof. Sudarsono Sudarsono, Juanita Elina, MSi., Dr. Giyanto, dan Dr. Dewi Sukma. Dr. Giyanto adalah staf dosen di Departemen Proteksi Tanaman, Fakultas Pertanian, sedangkan Juanita Elina adalah alumnus Program Magister, PS PBT, Sekolah Pascasarjana, IPB, Bogor, Indonesia.
Judul publikasi mereka adalah “Pathogen causing Phalaenopsis soft rot disease – 16S RDNA and virulence characterisation.” Saat ini status publikasi masih dalam status IN PRESS dan diharapkan versi online segera bisa diakses publik. ABSTRACT
We need to develop control strategies for Phalaenopsis soft rot disease. Identity of pathogen, its virulence, and method for resistance evaluation need investigation. We aimed to identify pathogen causing soft rot disease and develop detached leaf inoculation methods. Based on its 16S rDNA sequences, the pathogen causing soft rot disease in Phalaenopsis was Erwinia chrysanthemi/Dickeya chrysanthemi. Both virulence and avirulence strains were exists. The detached leaf inoculation assay for E. chrysanthemi/D. chrysanthemi resistance evaluation included wounding and inoculating the detached leaf with a 108 CFU/ml of bacteria. Soft rot disease symptom in the inoculated detached leaf was measurable at 20 h after inoculation. The detached leaf assay was applicable for evaluating Phalaenopsis germplasm and progeny resistance in Phalaenopsis breeding programs.
