BACKGROUND

The world population have increased significantly in recent years. The trend of population increases tend to be consistence in the years to come. The increase in world populations also means more demand for food.

On the other hand, agricultural land convertion into housing and other non-agricultural uses tend to increase significantly. As consequences of arable land conversion, food production will decrease significantly.

Such a dilematic condition pose challenges for plant breeders to generate more productive crop varieties. However, for a number of food crops, exploitation of genetic variabilities have almost reached maximum level. As a consequence, the genetic gain as a result of breeding activity will be low.

Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura menerima Dr. Miwa Matsushima dari Chiba University, Japan dalam program lecture exchane. Dr. Miwa Matsushima akan berkantor dan melakukan serangkaian kegiatan akademik di Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura mulai 1 Maret 2012 sampai dengan 29 Maret 2012

Jum’at, 2 Maret 2012 dilakukan penandatanganan dan penyerahan beasiswa kepada mahasiswa Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, Fakultas Pertanian IPB oleh PT BANK MANDIRI (Persero) Tbk., yang dalam hal ini diwakili oleh Rahma Novianti Hardi selaku Senior Vice President, kepada DEKAN FAKULTAS PERTANIAN – INSTITUT PERTANIAN BOGOR Dr. Ernan Rustiadi, M.Agr.
